SPME technology in Extractables and Leachables studies with primery packaging material
The requirements of  authorities for Extractables and Leachables of primary packaging material have steadily increased. The analysis of Extractables & Leachables is normally done after extensive sample preparation by liquid extractions with HPLC-UV, HPLC-MS or GC-MS. This classic sample preparation is difficult to automate and is a persistent source of errors.
In addition, the high solvent consumption unnecessarily burdens the environment.
In order to optimize this process Analytical Services equipped its present State-of-the Arte equipment  with an additional micro extraction SPME (Solid Phase Micro Extraction) GC-MS system, an automated sample preparation method that works without a solvent.


What is SPME (Solid Phase Micro Extraction):
The extraction process occurs either in the gas phase or in the liquid phase of the sample using the coated part of the SPME needle. The desorption occurs without any intermediate steps in the injector of the GC System.


SPME-technique advantages:
